Apparently, Beatty had been given the envelope for Best Actress, which was announced earlier in the evening. And it was INSANE! - the musical was named the night's big victor, adding to its six other wins. And for that, I fucking love Moonlight. 7 years ago getting #emmastone ready for her first #oscars I remember how excited we all were especially by the fact that there was gonna be a tribute to the legendary John Hughes. Of course, it was an unbelievable thing to hear La La Land (be announced).
A few questions later, Jenkins paused, grinned, and said what everyone who worked on the film must have been thinking: "Hot damn, we won best picture!". "I think it is one of the best films of all time, so I was pretty beside myself".
I found Natalie Portman's performance as the widowed wife of JFK to be much better than her performance in Black Swan, for which she won her first Oscar, though not as great her performance in Leon and Closer. I didn't want to go up there and take anything from somebody. "Cool. We made history tonight, craziest moment". But I think everyone is just so excited, so excited for Moonlight.
"When I was lucky, there were, like, five auditions a week - that's when you're really lucky", she told Us. At the very least, Adele is a big fan of Stone's work, and after the awards she reached out on Instagram to give a huge congrats.
While the Best Picture award wasn't theirs for the keeping, some of the six awards the film took out included Best Actress, Best Director and Best Original Music Score. "I also was holding my Best Actress in a Leading Role card that entire time", the Daily Mirror quoted Emma Stone as saying.
While everybody has started questioning why there were two cards for one announcement, Variety cleared that Oscars always had this system of printing two cards. "I think the reason is if you go away from Earth and look back at Earth you don't see any borders or lines". As the precursor trail intensified, so did the size of Stone's awards haul: The 28-year-old earned major accolades at the Screen Actors Guild, the Golden Globes and the BAFTA Awards - a trifecta that has gone to each of the last three best actress Oscar winners.
But Miss Stone had no ill will regarding her movie only winning Best Picture for all of two minutes.
