LG launches G6 with 5.7-in. display in narrow body

It is apparent that LG has given some thought on improving the display of the successor.

The standout feature of the LG G6, as we already knew, is its 5.7in 18:9 QHD+ FullVision display. Before we forget, we have a quadHD+ (2880 x 1440 pixels) resolution and pixel density of 564ppi.

Aside from its design, its water-resistant feature also helps the LG G6 make the cut. Going inside to the schematics of the board that powers the device, there is a SnapDragon 821 CPU chipset, 4GB of RAM. The smartphone's "FullVision" display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 while the back of the handset is made out of Gorilla Glass 5.

Apart from the big expansive screen, the phone has a zoom mode that upscales any content to the 18:9 format. This means that VR experience will be enhanced greatly in the latest handset.

A classification based on region of the device will determine whether you get 32GB internal storage or 64 GB, though MicroSD slot will be available in both the classes. The phone doesn't feature stereo loudspeakers, though, killing some expectations from consumers.

Rear camera: The G6 has two cameras on the rear. The normal 13MP snapper has a 71 degree FOV while the secondary 13MP unit has a wide-angle 125 degree FOV.

Last year, the company launched the modular G5, which was critically praised but missed sales targets. As per the trend, the front-facing secondary has been designed with selfies in mind, it's a slightly narrower wide-angle lens with a 100-degree FOV and a 5MP sensor.

The LG G6 has been revealed officially. While it would no doubt be outgunned by other flagships this year, the LG G6 appears to have been created to put up a good, long fight.

LG brought on stage, three-time Academy award victor Vittorio Storaro to help us better understand the ideology behind the unusual screen aspect ratio. You can stitch multiple photos together in a collage for a lock screen wallpaper, or run two apps side-by-side for full-sized multitasking. Being able to separate the display into two flawless squares had me snapping a square photo (perfect for Instagram), while also reviewing existing shots at the same time. According to LG, the smartphone will be launching in South Korean markets first and followed by other regions soon after. It features a slim design where 80 percent is taken up by its screen. It packs a 3,300 mAh battery which comes with Quick Charge.

Software: Android Nougat customised with LG's own user interface called UX 6.0. To catch up with the trends, LG has ensured that its 2017 flagship smartphone, the G6, sports IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. Moreover, the LG G6' USA version will support wireless charging. The company says that all of G6's stock apps work seamlessly with the Google Assistant feature.

It is the first non-Pixel phone to come preloaded with Google Assistant.
