LG welcomes a professor on stage during the G6 launch event to explain how easy is it to grip the smartphone despite having a big screen. The combination of Dolby Vision and HDR 10 was made possible by a customised Snapdragon 821 chipset which Qualcomm tweaked exclusively for the LG G6. This means that the G6 offers more viewing space and a more immersive experience when streaming videos and playing games.
LG also talked and invested a lot of research in the ergonomics part of the new LG G6 flagship, claiming that it has managed to squeeze in a 5.7-inch screen in a 5.2-inch size smartphone, measuring at 148.9x71.9x7.9mm, which is quite an achievement.
"The camera UX has been considerably enhanced thanks to the expansive 18:9 screen aspect ratio display in a way that increases the convenience and the fun".
In essence, Univisium eliminates the need to make different format "prints" to suit TV, theatre, smartphones, and other display devices while still using 35mm or 65mm original film stock and equipment.
Juno Cho, President of Mobile Communications Company, LG Electronics, at the company's keynote stressed that the smartphone war isn't about specifications but about usability. Talking about the display, the LG G6 has a 5.7-inch QHD+ display with a resolution of 2880×1440 with an aspect ratio of 18:9.
To catch up with the competition, LG has added water and dust resistance to its flagship phone. On the imaging side of things, the smartphone ships with a dual camera setup consisting of two Sony IMX258 sensors. Named G6, the newest LG phone is said to have been "designed in response to consumer feedback and user opinions". This is the first phone apart from Pixel to get Google's Assistant. It also comes a fingerprint scanner. While it would no doubt be outgunned by other flagships this year, the LG G6 appears to have been created to put up a good, long fight. The aspect ratio is at 18:9, which is unusual compared to the normal 16:9, but this means the screen is now taller than the G5.
The full metal body of the phone has an nearly bezel-less design on the front. Today we saw the launch of LG's new flagship smartphone, the LG G6. One section is dedicated to the camera viewfinder and the other one can be used for, say, editing and sharing your photos with friends on social media.
This feature has been removed on the G6.
The LG G6 will be available in three colours: Mystic White, Astro Black and Ice Platinum. The 13MP regular rear cameras comes with an f/1.8 aperture and supports optical image stabilisation, whereas the wide angle 13MP camera comes with an f/2.4 aperture without any image stabilisation. Under the hood, the LG G6 has a Snapdragon 821 SoC that is paired with a 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and an Adreno 530 GPU.
