Casey Affleck Wins Best Actor at Oscars 2017

"I'm proud to be a part of this community in general".

Based on Dennis Lehane's novel of the same title, it was his brother's directorial debut and earned co-star Amy Ryan nominations at the Oscars and Golden Globes.

If you have not seen the movie, you should definitely check it out when you have time. This is Affleck's first Academy Award win, and his second nomination.

CASEY Affleck was overcome with emotion as he was named the victor of Best Actor at the 89th Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday night.

The actor was tearful as he made his acceptance speech, saying: "This means so much to me, thank you". He had previously been nominated for an Oscar in the best supporting actor category for "The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford". With the Oscar win, Affleck swept all the major acting awards for the leading role category. The Oscar went to Emma Stone for her performance in "La La Land". Viola Davis, the presumed victor, is arguably the female lead in "Fences" and should have been nominated in the best actress category.

Affleck, 41, earned the statuette for his portrayal of disaffected handyman who is named guardian to his teenage nephew (played by Lucas Hedges) following his brother's death. But I believe Chazelle ("La La Land") deserves to prevail for a very challenging and complicated shoot pulled off with such style and aplomb.

We hope Casey will do great at the Oscars tonight!

Best Film - First Contact / Fences / Tu Ne Tueras Point / Comancheria / The Shadow Figures / The Land / Lion / Manchester By The Sea / Moonlight.
