It has emerged that before shooting the two Indian engineers+ - Srinivas Kuchibhotla and Alok Madasani- in a Kansas bar, the shooter held a brief conversation with them inquiring about their visas.
Thirty-two-year-old Indian engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla died of the wounds he sustained when a man allegedly opened fire in a crowded bar in suburban Kansas on Wednesday. We have been told the shooting is a hate crime.
For the five-odd minutes she spoke, Dumala appeared controlled, in spite of clearly being shattered by the grief of losing her husband, who was to turn 33 on 9 March. "I was always concerned, 'Are we doing the right thing staying in the USA or America?' But he always assured me good things happen in America".
According to his profile on LinkedIn, Kuchibhotla, 32, graduated from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad in 2005 with an electrical engineering degree.
"Do we belong?" she asked. "We've set up this fund to help them with the funeral expenses and other ongoing grief/recovery support costs", it says. He reportedly told an employee there he needed a place to hide because he had killed two Middle Eastern men, the Star reported.
Adam Purinton, 51, of Olathe was charged Thursday with first-degree murder in the death of Kuchibhotla. A bystander told the Kansas City Star that just before opening fire the gunman shouted: "Get out of my country".
Kuchibhotla and Madasani worked together at the Garmin in Olathe.
Mr Grillot, who initially hid under the table, made a decision to act. "I don't think it's going to be at the bar, though", he said.
Bennett said Grillot's prognosis for a full recovery is good, but the bullet is still lodged in Grillot's chest because it would pose more of a threat to surgically remove it.
Assistant Clinton Police Chief Sonny Lynch said that Purinton was not armed when he was arrested. He was also shot at the bar and was released from the hospital on Friday morning.
Witnesses said Grillot was shot after he intervened.
Police said it was too early to determine whether the shooting was a hate crime, but said local authorities were investigating the incident with the FBI, AP reports. The attack stoked fears about the nation's treatment of immigrants, who feel targeted by President Donald Trump's promises to ban certain travelers, build a wall along the Mexico border and put "America first". Because he has not yet appeared in court, Purinton did not yet have an attorney formally assigned.
Mr Kuchibhotla was having an after-work beer with a good friend at Austin's Bar and Grill in Olathe, a city about 20 miles southwest of Kansas City.
