AB de Villiers tops 9 000 ODI runs

New Zealand have only beaten them twice in nine previous bilateral series and it would have been very hard to see them coming back from 2-0 down.

Following his rampant 50 with the bat off just 27 balls against New Zealand at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Wednesday, Dwaine Pretorius has spoken up for his acclamation to be a levelled all-rounder for the Proteas, and this comes as no surprise.

Rabada was welcomed back by South Africa, for Chris Morris, after he sat out the second ODI with a knee injury. Now, though, they prepare for the Wellington match with an air of confidence.

A regular match-winner for the Proteas, Tahir was ranked number one in the world in both T20 and ODI cricket at the time of the auction and was widely expected to attract something of a bidding war. Better now, though, than in the Champions Trophy.

"Another tight one so it was nice to be on the right side of this one", New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said.

New Zealand's Ross Taylor scored 102 not out, along with James Neesham's 71 not out. It was a memorable comeback against Bangladesh with scores of 109 not out and 97, followed by a crucial 73 against Australia. He could yet become the fall-guy if there is a reshuffle in the batting to retain the six-bowler balance.

De Kock made 68 at the top of the order to tie Jonty Rhodes' South African record of five half-centuries in consecutive one-day internationals following scores in his four previous innings of 57, 69, 109 and 55. There is enormous power in the order, time for a touch more responsibility.

AB de Villiers smashed Sourav Ganguly's "fastest to 9000 runs in ODI" record when he came down to bat after Faf du Plessis' dismissal during South Africa's innings against New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday.
