White House to hire 10000 ICE agents for 'big immigration launch'

Neither department requires officers to check immigration status or detain people who are in the country illegally, both officers said.

ICE and other law enforcement officers can not enter private residences or non-public areas of a business without a warrant, officials have said.

"[It is] a highly successful force multiplier that allows a qualified state or local law enforcement officer to be designated as an 'immigration officer, '" the memo reads.

The Trump administration on Tuesday defended its policies focused on border and immigration enforcement, arguing that nearly all unauthorized migrants pose a threat and potentially should be deported, especially if they violate US law.

None of the 38 agencies in 16 states that participate in the 287 (g) program are in Rhode Island.

An ICE spokesman confirmed the arrests to the Observer Tuesday afternoon, noting agents arrested three convicted criminals with prior DUI convictions at the site, and while there, picked up three additional undocumented immigrants.

The committee is chaired by Oxnard Police Chief Scott Whitney.

Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California has asserted that she and her colleagues are not against deporting violent offenders but are alarmed by the Trump administration's efforts to empower ICE to remove undocumented immigrants who are otherwise law-abiding.

Kihuen said he has had people at town hall meetings come up to him with tears in their eyes anxious that they may be deported, separating them from their families.
