Both men averaged 20+ points and 10+ rebounds per game in Olajuwon's rookie season, and Houston gained a 48-34 record making the National Basketball Association playoffs.
DeMarcus "Boogie" Cousins put up an impressive stat line in his New Orleans Pelicans debut, but the Rockets spoiled it by handing the Pelicans a thorough 129-99 loss. Pelicans officials reported a spike in ticket sales after the Cousins trade and an enthusiastic crowd of 18,470 turned out for the All-Star center's much-anticipated debut.
To review, the Pelicans traded away Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, Buddy Hield, a first- and second-round pick in exchange for DeMarcus Cousins and Omri Casspi. Our games compliment one another.
New Orleans, 3 games back of the 8 seed in the Western Conference, have 24 games to make up the difference.
As for the Houston Rockets, they traded Corey Brewer and their first-rounder for this year to the Los Angeles Lakers for sharpshooting guard Lou Williams. Terrence Jones (thumb) missed four games before the All-Star break, and Dante Cunningham (personal) missed two games. Cousins averages 27.8 points, 10.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.
The Rockets are 4-2 in February and are averaging 117.7 points a game. They are shooting a season-worst 44.6 percent this month, but they are also turning the ball over 13 times a game - which is a season-low. Luckily for the Pelicans though, they still have a "floor general" in Holiday, who is known as one of the league's best pure point guards, when he is at his best of course.
- The Pelicans employed a switching man-to-man defense to try to counter the Rockets' array of outside marksmen, but their rotations were consistently late and Houston exploited it. It would be a matter of playing together for the benefits of the team for both Cousins and Davis. They are 14-15 at home this season and has played better there this season, being outscored by 1.7 points a game.
Houston defeated New Orleans 122-100 in the first matchup.
