Omaha police: Creighton's Maurice Watson suspect in sexual assault

According to a World-Herald anonymous source, a female Creighton student who was "an acquaintance of Watson's" is alleging that he sexually assaulted her in early February. Officer Michael Pecha said no arrest has been made and that an investigation continues.

Earlier this week, the Creighton basketball program announced guard Maurice Watson had been suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules.

Watson became a fan favorite after he transferred from Boston University following his sophomore season. The university also barred him from taking part in Senior Day events at the final home game of the season on Tuesday, February 28th.

"Creighton's athletics program is based upon the Catholic, Jesuit mission of the university", the school's vague but ominously worded statement read. "Program officials, coaches, and staff always strive to administer the program according to the University's highest values and standards". A spokesperson for Creighton said the university could not comment on an outside investigation.

Watson was named to the preseason All-Big East first team. Creighton is 4-4 since Watson got hurt. He led the nation in assists when he suffered a torn knee ligament January 16 against Xavier, ending his season. The 23rd-ranked Bluejays have gone 4-5 since his injury.
