Stein said, "As long as Nowitzki is around, I would think Noel is someone who should interest the Mavs".
Turkish forward Ersan Ilyasova, enjoying a career-best season, was traded from the 76ers to Atlanta late Wednesday for injured Brazilian center Tiago Splitter, a second-round NBA Draft pick and the right to swap second-round picks with the Hawks in June's NBA Draft. "We've been working hard all year long".
Before the National Basketball Association trade deadline on Thursday afternoon, the Mavericks and owner Mark Cuban pulled off a deal with Philadelphia.
The Dallas Mavericks traded forward Justin Anderson, center Andrew Bogut and a first-round draft pick for Philadelphia Sixers' forward/center Nerlens Noel. Unfortunately, there's no real chance that selection will ever find its way into their hands.
For now the draft pick is a 2017 first-rounder-but it won't come unless the Mavericks miraculously make the playoffs and finish with one of the 12 best records in the league. Even though his offensive game is limited, he has plenty to offer elsewhere. Ferrell averaged 14.2 points and 4.7 assists in 10 games since signing with the Mavericks. In Mavericks terms it gives them a skinny Erick Dampier to groom, and if Noel's perimeter defense holds up that could help settle their center situation with an athletic 5 to play next to Harrison Barnes at either the 3 or the 4. With still a few hours left in the deadline, the Sixers may not be done moving. Such nimbleness, speed, and length allow him to be far more effective covering pick-and-rolls, defending at the perimeter, closing out, and switching onto smaller players than most bigs, and that ability should be utilized to great effect by the Mavs and Carlisle. "He's been my best friend since I got to Philly".
So, how about the 76ers?
In exchange the Mavs sent Andrew Bogut and his expiring contract, along with Justin Anderson and a conditional 1 round pick.
The Warriors traded Bogut to the Dallas Mavericks for a future second-round pick on July 7, 2016. "No matter who wears this jersey, we're going to go out there and try to win these games".
Bogut will likely be shipped off to another team, or have his contract bought out by the 76ers; it'd be surprising if he saw a minute on the court for them.
Nerlens is set to become a restricted free agent after the season, so it seems like Philadelphia may not have been too confident in signing him to a big deal. There are plenty of reasons for them to do so.
