He was not terribly pleased, putting up the 35th fastest time. He's a former series champion (2004), and enters the 2017 season with 28 wins over a 17-year career. The more years that go by, the less opportunities you are going to have to get it done. As he puts it: "I've faced the range of emotions that humans probably aren't created to face". That's hard to think about. We think that fits with NASCAR really good'. Every time I talk about coming to Daytona I get a big smile on my face, which is insane. "This country has given me all the tools to be successful in racing and to be able to do what I love, to do every single weekend".
The new format in place for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship this year will help Jimmie Johnson keep his mind off what could be a monumental accomplishment.
According to Forbes, the sport's 10 most valuable teams are now worth an average $137 million, down seven percent from previous year.
Riding just behind Waltrip and son Dale Jr., protecting their rear, Earnhardt was tapped from behind and sent into the outside wall.
Jimmie Johnson, who won his seventh NASCAR points title a year ago, is at +1200. "They wanted me to celebrate it". I wouldn't call it haunting. "We had a very good driving auto in last year's 500, and then two teammates that didn't spin out in the Clash, so we have plenty of notes to go to, but we're definitely being aggressive". Everybody has that number. I was the flawless person to win because I just wanted to give him the credit. Some of the homework the doctors gave me was very basic physical exercises, but with a lot of movement. I wish I could have gotten a hug from him and everything had turned out different. It'll be his 30th Daytona 500 start and his 784th Cup start. He is like racing's version of golf's Andy North, the broadcaster who as a pro only seemed to win the big one (two U.S. Opens). One driver who has the Cup on his mind is Denny Hamlin as he tries to capture a second straight Daytona 500 victory. "We've obviously got to get through the Duels, first".
"The coolest thing that happened to me, hands down, was I got a picture from Mario Andretti of when he won the race and it said, 'Finally, another Italian won the Daytona 500.' " Logano said. That's just not the way it is.
Because the Can-Am Duel races are awarding points, Elliott is now guaranteed to start the Daytona 500 tied with the victor of the second Duel atop the points standings. "We led the most laps, and we were the fastest vehicle".
"It makes you think and pay attention to yourself", Danica says.
"And as soon as I thought about it three times, the third time was too late". I know what a result I can get by driving without fear, and I know what kind of result I can get if I have even a sliver of apprehension. He says he's looking forward to it.
