Apple Investigating iPhone 7 Plus That Caught Fire After Store Diagnostics Tests

An American teen, Brianna Olivas, said that her rose gold iPhone 7 Plus started smoking right before it exploded yesterday.

It looks like the iPhone 6 and 6s aren't the only ones with kamikaze tendencies alongside the discontinued Galaxy Note 7.

It has just been reported that the iPhone 7 Plus is not immune to blowing up on its own, as the unit belonging to a certain Brianna Olivas chose to go with a bang.

Apple has replaced the device and said it is "looking into it". "By the time he got over to the phone it had already caught fire, he quickly grabbed the phone and threw it in the soon as he threw it in the restroom is [sic] blew up and more smoke started coming out of the phone". The next day however she claims that the phone apparently caught fire when it was sat on her dresser.

It's not clear what might have caused the fault. After encountering with the issue she then took the iPhone 7 Plus, which she had bought in January, to a Sprint Store where the store's employees ran tests and concluded that everything was fine.

Olivia described the incident in her own words - "The next morning I was asleep with my phone charging next to my head, my boyfriend grabbed the phone and put it on the dresser", she said via a direct message on Twitter.

Olivas says that she always used an official Apple charger. When the phone began to make a squealing noise Olivas' boyfriend threw it into the bathroom. Not to mention the iPhone 7 Plus has been in circulation for a while already and while we might have heard of a problem here and there, they don't appear to be widespread.

According to Phone Arena, the Sprint employee that managed to get the device to turn on found that it looked amusing, but after running a diagnostics check he concluded that it was fine.
