Broncos not picking up LT Russell Okung's option

Okung struggled mostly in pass blocking, ranking 48th among 74 qualified left tackles, according to ProFootballFocus' figures.

The Broncos informed Russell Okung, who negotiated his own contract with Denver a year ago, that it wouldn't be picking up his option, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported Thursday. Okung, who previously played for the Seahawks, had to participate in 90 percent of the offseason program and be on the roster at the end of it to earn the first $1 million.

"We're not going to do that, we're not going to go out and spend a ton of money on free agency on one guy to try to save day", coach Pete Carroll said during his final press conference in January.

Cincinnati's Andrew Whitworth is the top offensive tackle scheduled to be a free agent, but the Bengals may attempt to retain the 35-year-old left tackle.

There aren't many elite offensive tackle draft prospects, but Utah's Garett Bolles and Wisconsin's Ryan Ramczyk are a couple potential first round options.

The Broncos will also need to make a decision on right tackle Donald Stephenson before his 2017 contract is guaranteed on March 13.

"Another strong tackle option appears headed to free agency as the Broncos have informed Russell Okung they will not be picking up his option". He started all 16 games for the Broncos last season, allowing four sacks while being penalized nine times.
