Michael Flynn resigns as national security advisor as interim advisor steps in

Trump, who has been conspicuously quiet about Flynn's standing for several days, took to Twitter Tuesday morning and said the "real story here is why are there so many illegal leaks coming out of Washington?".

President Donald Trump mounted a vigorous defense of his presidency and accused America's news media of being "out of control" at a White House news conference Thursday, vowing to bypass the media and take his message "straight to the people".

Kosachev also expressed frustration with the Trump administration.

Trump waved away questions about a New York Times report that members of his campaign team had frequent contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials past year.

President Donald Trump ousted his national security adviser because he lost trust in him, not for any legal concern, Trump's spokesman said Tuesday.

"Russia is a ruse", Trump said. Trump added, "Russia is fake news".

He blamed any problems on the outgoing Obama administration. "I inherited a mess at home and overseas - a mess", Trump said. It came a day after fast-food executive Andrew Puzder withdrew his nomination for Labor after losing support among Republican senators.

"General Michael Flynn is a wonderful man that has been treated very very unfairly by the media", said President Trump. But Flynn told members of the Trump transition team, including Vice President-elect Mike Pence, that he had exchanged only holiday greetings and other nonpolicy chit-chat with the ambassador. "But given President Trump's repeated praise for Putin and the fact that the White House knew about Flynn's actions for weeks and chose to do nothing, Americans do not have clarity about who this administration works for". Acosta said. "He's made comment after comment over the course of the campaign and the transition where he defended Vladimir Putin, he had an interview with Bill O'Reilly where when he was asked if Vladimir Putin is a killer, he said, 'well, America hasn't been that much better in this regard.' To me, and to a lot of Americans, it seems that this president has not been tough on Russian Federation". His choice for national security adviser, retired Vice-Admiral Robert Harward, has turned down the offer, a senior White House official says.

Flynn, one of nine siblings, was raised in a small house on Tuckerman Avenue in what his siblings have described as a "very Democratic Catholic family". He is slated to meet with officials later Thursday. As journalists were being escorted out of the breakfast meeting, Trump responded to a reporter's question on the subject by saying: "We're going to find the leakers" and "they're going to pay a big price". President Barack Obama announces sanctions against Russian intelligence services and their top officials, kicking out 35 Russian officials and closing down two Russian-owned compounds in the U.S. Flynn texts the ambassador and the two speak by phone. A few minutes later he followed up with, "The spotlight has finally been put on the low-life leakers!"
