Will Neymar go to jail for corruption?

Neymar, Barcelona star, will stand trial on fraud and corruption charges over his transfer to Barcelona four years ago.

"Santos FC, Barcelona FC, Neymar, his mother Nadine Goncalves and N&N, the family company, have lost their appeals to have charges of fraud and corruption dropped", Spain's high court said in a statement.

The court also ratified that proceedings against Nadine Gonçalves, the player's mother, and the family company N & N, would go ahead after rejecting appeals brought by their defenses.

Barcelona forward Neymar lost his final appeal and will stand trial on corruption charges related to his transfer to Barcelona.

All the parties can not appeal against the court's decision.

Both squads will also have to defend themselves in court, along with a company run by Neymar's parents, as a Brazilian investment group seeks a greater share of proceeds from the transfer.

In November, prosecutors recommended that the striker be handed a two-year jail sentence and a fine of 10 million euros for alleged corrupt practices.

These rights entitled DIS to 40 percent of Neymar's transfer fee, but it contested that it received a lesser payment because part of the transfer fee had been deliberately concealed. Even if convicted, he will nearly certainly not spend any time behind bars, as a first-time offender under Spanish law.
