Roger Federer commits to Swiss Indoors in Basel until 2019

The Swiss Indoors will run October 23 to 29, and president of the tournament Roger Brennwald says they are "privileged" to have his namesake appear for the coming three years.

The 18-time Grand Slam victor has agreed a three-year contract to compete at the Swiss Indoors in Basel.

While Europe boasts 17 out of the current top 20 players in the world, Federer refused to see his continent as the clear winners.

Federer said Berdych and Rafael Nadal will also be on the 6-man European squad.

The tournament, named after Australian tennis great Rod Laver, will pit a team from Europe - led by icon Bjorn Borg - against the John McEnroe-led Rest Of the World, with Federer in Prague to promote the event with local hero Tomas Berdych.

Almost a month has passed since Roger Federer's Australian Open win over Rafael Nadal, but he is still enjoying celebrating his success.

Federer, who is now enjoying a break after his Australian Open win, is in Prague to promote the September event ahead of the ATP500 event in Dubai. Even though on paper it looks like we will be the big favourites, I think the Team of the Rest of the World will have its chances.

Each day four matches will be played - three singles and a doubles.

"Our rivalry has been so special and I have seen his wicked forehand go past me too often, so it would be nice to have him on my team and actually admire his forehand and admire his shotmaking".

Players in the Laver Cup, however, will play best-of-three sets, with an ad-point after deuce instead of a deciding point. Of the six players on each side, four will be based on the ATP rankings after Wimbledon and the remaining two will be picked by the captains.
