Game Day 5: Sens @ Leafs

Craig Anderson gets the call in goal tonight for the Senators.

The excitement factor was there as the Leafs came back from a two-goal hole and held a lead but gave it back as the third periodd wore on and the low-octane Ottawa offence somehow produced 40 shots on the defence-challenged home side.

Much of that was undone by giving up the first period goals to Dzingel and Chris Wideman.

With Brown shifting to the Bozak-JVR line, Mike Babcock is reuniting William Nylander with Auston Matthews and Zach Hyman.

After missing on their own 5-on-3 in the first period, the Leafs went ahead with Zack Smith in the box, Matthews dishing to Nylander.

The Senators (31-19-6) took the lead on a power-play goal at 6:26 of the third with Brassard putting in a rebound after a shot from the point by Erik Karlsson.

Only 54 seconds before Brassard's game-winner, Hoffman tied the game 3-3 when he rifled a shot off the post and past Anderson.

Andersen was removed for an extra attacker with 2:25 to play and Stone scored from the Ottawa end into the empty net for his 21st goal of the season at 18:10.

Dzingel scored his 12th of the season 20 seconds later when he redirected a shot by defenseman Marc Methot. Penalties_Martin, TOR, (interference), 9:29; Hyman, TOR, (holding), 9:40.

Rielly scored his third goal of the season on a shot from near the blue line at 14:38 of the second. Kadri stayed with it, though, and sent the puck off Dzingel's helmet from behind the Senators goal and into the net for his 24th goal of the year.

2-Derick Brassard, Senators: For all his offensive struggles this season, he found the right time to find the range, scoring the game-winner. They came back. Obviously we were expecting a push after that first period and we got one. We don't give a lot of scoring chances and the guys are really keen on being structured and being together with a pack mentality.

"I didn't really notice to be honest with you", Stone said of his five-point game. It's hard not to get down (after failing two score with a two-man advantage).

The Leafs got on the plane to Raleigh still clinging to the final berth in the East, but the crowd of teams was massing behind them and Florida had a West Coast match that could've bumped Toronto out. "But there's a little bit more that we want".

Toronto Maple Leafs leading scorer Mitch Marner is listed as day-to-day after suffering an apparent right shoulder injury earlier this week. He was injured during the 5-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday.

Nikita Soshnikov will return to the lineup Saturday after a recent absence due to injury.

The victory also capped a ideal two-game road trip - with fathers in tow - that began with a 3-0 defeat of New Jersey on Thursday. Toronto acquired C Sergey Kalinin from New Jersey for D Viktor Loov, who has been playing with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. This was Nylander's second multi-point game of the week, he earned a goal and an assist on Valentine's Day against the New York Islanders.

A Saturday night Battle of Ontario game that also actually has some significance to the Atlantic Division standings?
