UNC-Charlotte football team starting quarterback Kevin OIsen appeared in court on rape charges Monday morning, where he was granted a $103,000 bond.
The Charlotte Observer reports (http://bit.ly/2lZ88Ei ) the 22-year-old Olsen was booked into the Charlotte Mecklenburg Jail late Sunday afternoon on multiple charges, including second-degree forcible rape, cyberstalking and assault on a female. During their time apart, Northrup said, Olsen sent the woman a text message threatening to kill her.
In court Monday morning, the prosecutor in the case said the woman met back up with Olsen and took an Uber home together. Police reached her at Carolinas Medical Center - University, where the women was found to have vaginal injuries and bruising around one of her eyes.
She told officers that Olsen then came into the bedroom and wanted to have sex, but she reportedly said no. That's when he allegedly raped her three separate times. Olsen's defense attorney denies the accusations.
Olsen was suspended from the team and the university is reviewing the case while remaining in communication with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, according to the spokesperson.
The victim was hospitalized at University Hospital with scratches and bruises.
The university announced in a statement that Olsen has been suspended from the team.
The University said the incident, which happened off campus, appears to involve sexual assault within an existing relationship.
Like his older brothers, Greg Olsen and Chris Olsen Jr, Kevin Olsen played for his father and coach Chris Olsen Sr at Wayne Hills High School in New Jersey.
According to The Charlotte Observer, Olsen was a four-star rated quarterback out of high school and signed on with the Miami Hurricanes; however, after "an accumulation of reported legal entanglements", Olsen was forced out of Miami, and less than a year later, left Towson due to broken team rules.
Olsen played football in the fall of 2015 for Riverside California City College.
Greg Olsen told a spokesman for the Panthers franchise that he had no comment regarding his brother's arrest.
