The report comes even as Reliance Industries Chairman has said Jio's growth is beating all expectations.

So where are Jio's customers coming from?

"It is surprising to see the shorter call duration (for Jio subscribers) since there is generally little difference between operators", the report stated.

As per the TrueInsights report, Vodafone and Idea enjoy the leading share in Delhi and Maharashtra respectively while Reliance Jio and Airtel have even share of usage across all regions.

While Jio has managed to make gains in the market, it looks like the connection is not being used so much for calls. If overlaid with the average call duration, it does seem like the data points to some unintended usage patterns, such as Jio sims primarily being used for data or an increased amount of dropped calls and hence redials on the Jio network.

According to the report's research methodology, the data was aggregated anonymously from incoming and outgoing calls tagged by a user's their mobile operator in India during the period of July 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016.

How does Jio fair in data consumption? The South Korean handset manufacturer, Samsung will host a joint press conference with India's Reliance Jio at the tech show which takes place later this month in Barcelona.

The Chinese device maker Huawei has also bagged a managed services and network operations contract worth around Dollars 180-220 million from Vodafone India for a total of five circles, for the next 3 years. Only 17.54% of 4G users are using Airtel as primary data connection source, while Vodafone has a market share of at 12.26% and Idea has 11.50% share.

The report further added "From our data, it's clear that Jio has already shaken up the mobile landscape in India".
