Six years after Regis Philbin's departure from Live!, the 85-year-old revealed that he's still on thin ice when it comes to former co-host Kelly Ripa.
And that might very well have to do with Kelly, who, according to Regis, "thought I was leaving because of her". "She thought I was leaving because of her". "I was leaving because I was getting older, and it wasn't right for me anymore".
Philbin thinks that Ripa took his exit very personally, noting, "That was 11 years ago, and I..."
"Yeah, I think so", Philbin replied.
Ripa joined the talk show in 2001 and co-hosted alongside Philbin for 10 years until audiences said farewell to him during his tear-filled last episode in 2011.
"Never once did they ask me to go back", he shared.
Answering a question from Larry King about whether he still kept in touch with Ripa, Philbin admitted, "Not really, no".
Despite the fracture in their friendship, Philbin still has a taste for TV.
Asked if he would come back to television, he said it would depend on how often he would appear. Would it be every night? "Every day?" Philbin says. "I do miss it". This week, he told King that while he sometimes misses hosting on TV, he "figured it was time to let go".
Ripa had not been informed of Strahan's exit before it became public.
Note to all future co-hosts: Kelly Ripa is not the one to mess with.
