Paris Saint-Germain beats Barcelona with 4-0 score

Paris Saint Germain produced a stunning first-leg display at Parc des Princes to humiliate Barcelona 4-0 and take a giant step towards the last eight of the Champions League.

Julian Draxler was the key January signing and, despite his drab form at Wolfburg before his arrival, he has made such an impact that he is practically guaranteed to start against Barcelona.

" It was a disastrous night for us; we were clearly inferior", Enrique said.

Barcelona are also winning their games of late, but while their form varies from draw against Betis with a bad play to a 0-6 dismantling of Alaves, Paris are far more constant. "It was the ideal match".

That triumph does, however, look more likely at least after PSG thumped Barcelona 4-0 on Tuesday in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

Di Maria, who celebrated his 29th birthday on Tuesday, was unstoppable.

It was Cavani's 34th goal in all competitions this season and capped a memorable 30th birthday for the forward.

They are fresh from a 3-0 victory at Bordeaux in Ligue 1 on Friday, in which Edinson Cavani scored twice to take him to 33 goals in all competitions this season.

PSG captain Thiago Silva was ruled out due to a muscle problem, and head coach Unai Emery handed 21-year-old Presnel Kimpembe his Champions League debut as a central back along with Marquinhos. "We have to enjoy this moment and then focus on the match against Toulouse".

Perhaps he was being diplomatic.

"It is a really great night".

History suggests their chances are less than slim and the tie is PSG's to lose now after what was a signature European performance from the French champions.

The way Barca lost its shape and composure was completely unbecoming of such a proud club.

Barca knocked PSG out of the quarter-finals in 2013 and 2015, but Luis Enrique warned that the French champions are now "more structured".

Neymar has scored five goals in four games against PSG, his highest tally in the Champions League. When Luis Enrique heard that he said he didn't know what he was talking about and had a go at one of the journalists in one of the post-game interviews.

"However, we are only at half-time in this match - we have to keep working for the return leg". It doesn't get much greater than pitting your wits against Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar.

Tonight was all about the CDD, as Cavani, Draxler and Di Maria ran the show. "I have always had the desire to play in England, it is in me.The Premier League - that is football". The side reached the semifinals only once, in 1995, the year before it won its only trophy, the now defunct Cup Winners Cup.

In a result that is sure to send shockwaves throughout Europe and world football, a Di Maria brace led PSG to an emphatic first-leg win in Paris.

Realistically, the only piece of silverware Barcelona can finish with this season is the Copa, having made it to the final to play Alaves.

It was like watching Barcelona putting PSG to the sword two years ago.
