'Hidden Figures' to screen for free in Miami

Set in 1960s Virginia, this film tells of the race between the United States and Russian Federation to put a man into space, and the untold story of a group of African-American female mathematicians working at NASA who served as the brains behind one of the greatest events in history. Cities like Baltimore, Philadelphia, Charlotte and Oakland will have the chance to experience the critically-acclaimed biopic starring the award-winning Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae.

The local screening is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 18) at the AMC Westbank Palace.

21st Century Fox is teaming with AMC Theatres for free screenings of Hidden Figures across the country. They will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.

If you're part of a school, community group or nonprofit that would like to provide a free screening of the film with AMC Theaters, you can fill out the application here.

The screenings will be on February 18, but in addition schools, community groups and other nonprofits can apply for additional screenings, with selected groups notified in March.

It has become a critical and box office hit.

In honor of Black History Month, Best Picture nominee "Hidden Figures" will get a series of free screenings this weekend in several major markets nationwide. Liba Rubenstein, 21st Century Fox's SVP of Social Impact said, "As we celebrate Black History Month and look ahead to Women's History Month in March, this story of empowerment and perseverance is more relevant than ever".
