Eric Dier: 'Tottenham Hotspur are not timid'

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Redknapp claimed that, if sold, Alli would command a fee in excess of the world-record figure United paid for Pogba last summer, following his remarkable exploits this season.

However, Harry Redknapp believes United missed out on a player in 2015 who's now worth, in his opinion, £100 million.

Speaking about Alli, Redknapp mused:'I think he's worth £100m now - if Pogba's worth £90m, Alli is worth more. "You have to worry about young players sometimes in certain places if they can cope with it and will they be looked after as a 20-year-old boy and not just an asset".

But England and Spurs team-mate Alli has defended Dier, insisting: "He's still a very young boy, I think people need to remember that". Redknapp, who points out that Alli played a hand in the Dons' 4-0 win over Manchester United in the League Cup in August 2014, is surprised that the Red Devils did not make a move before Spurs did. "You wonder how they didn't take the kid from MK Dons for £5 million". It's incredible that no one took him. "What a player, what a signing - what a steal at £5m", he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

During an interview with Sky Sports, Eric Dier said that Tottenham is the "perfect place" for Dele Alli to be playing and that he may struggle to adapt at another club.

Alli signed a six-year contract with Tottenham in September but it has not stopped links to some of the biggest clubs in Europe including Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Transfer speculation is likely to persist for the remainder of the season, but any thoughts of a big-money move must be put to the back of Alli's mind.
