Apple's WWDC moves to San Jose, kicks off June 5

The developer-focussed showcase has always been the conference at which Apple details its major software plans for the next 12 months, though sometimes it's also offered the odd hardware surprise too.

Apple on Thursday announced the date and location for WWDC, its annual conference for developers and app makers.

San Jose is quite close to Apple's home in Cupertino, California, but this is still an unexpected twist, as recent WWDC's have all been held in San Francisco. WWDC 2017 will mark the return of WWDC to San Jose, and the event will take place at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose. Although Apple's new Apple Campus 2 isn't yet finished, it could be close to complete by June, which suggests that Apple could hold some events or talks at its new "spaceship" headquarters. This year Apple is expected to introduce iOS 11, macOS 10.13, and updates to watchOS and tvOS. "We look forward to working with Apple to create a special experience for the thousands of attendees who will visit San Jose for this marquee event". If you want to be there yourself, you'll need to be a member of the Apple Developer Program or Apple Developer Enterprise Program.

Tickets will go on sale March 27th.
