The singer, who is pregnant with two babies, won the award for best urban contemporary album for "Lemonade".
Adele won three major awards: album of the year for "25," as well as record of the year and song of the year, for the single "Hello".
On Sunday the Grammy Awards dominated TV screens across the world with a politically charged performance by A Tribe Called Quest and some recording-breaking wins.
"I'm shaking", said the rapper.
"Working with him on Blackstar introduced me to an artistic genius, a kind man and a amusing as hell guy".
"I can't mess this up for him", she said.
"His songs were incredible and he was one of the most wonderful people I've met in my life", McCaslin added. The Chicago native was awarded the coveted Best New Artist award from presenter Jennifer Lopez.
Some actors won Grammys, too: Don Cheadle picked up best compilation soundtrack for visual media for "Miles Ahead", where he is credited as a compilation producer, and Carol Burnett won the best spoken word album Grammy.
Killen said Bowie's ill health during the making of Blackstar "did not impede, if anything it spurred him on". Vanity Fair reports it was all a big misunderstanding-though admittedly one we'd love to believe.
Adele confirmed what her fans have suspected for some time- that she's actually married to her long-term partner Simon Konecki. Her back-to-back awards for Record of the Year ("Hello") and Album of the Year ("25") were the most talked-about moments of the entire evening on Facebook.
Ocean even declined to submit his critically-acclaimed album, Blonde, for consideration, saying the Grammys did not "seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from, and hold down what I hold down".
Singing the 53-year-old's 1996 dance song Fastlove, Adele stopped the tribute midway through and swore live on the air - after her performance started off-key.
"Stressed Out" by Twenty One Pilots garnered the Grammy for Best Duo/Group Performance. Drake's famous Hotline Bling received the Best Rap Song award.
Song of the year nominees are "Formation", "Hello", "7 Years", Mike Posner's "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" and Bieber's "Love Yourself", shared with co-writer Ed Sheeran. "As things are diversifying overall in society, I'm hoping that the Grammy committees are doing the same", he said.
He also missed out on a nod for Best Country Solo Performance.
