The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will debut officially at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The Japanese vehicle manufacturer adding that the high-saturation red body colour, newly developed for the model, is also reflected in the name to evoke the brilliance of the prominence seen during the total solar eclipse.
When Mitsubishi first teased its new crossover in January, a rumor said that it would carry a somewhat sacrilegious name.
And while the XR-PHEV concept had a daringly creased back end, raked 20 degrees backwards from a right angle, inspecting the Eclipse Cross reveals the angle of the rear lights has increased to 80 degrees - although it remains noticeably off the vertical plane. The brand's current Dynamic Shield face is of course present. We'll see the covers come off next month at the 2017 Geneva auto show.
Official specs have yet to be confirmed, but its expected that a 1.5 litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine and a 2.2 litre diesel engine will be available at launch. "Marrying stylish coupe lines with the freedom of movement the SUV genre gives, the Eclipse Cross' handsome, dynamic form serves to bring about the same sense of excitement and inspiration as the diamond ring seen immediately before and after a total solar eclipse does", Mitsubishi said in the release.
Mitsubishi later pulled the plug on the entire plant, shuttering it a year ago. The Lancer Evolution died a slow, unchanging death after its competitors kept issuing new versions of their cars.
