However, Benfica are having a better time of things domestically than Dortmund as they now top the Primeira Liga, whilst Tuchel's men are down in 4th in the Bundesliga, 15 points off Bayern.
"Of course we didn't expect to lose against Darmstadt".
"We are full of anticipation and hopeful that we can perform to our best", he added.
For Tuesday's clash with Benfica, Dortmund have been boosted with the return of captain Marcel Schmelzer and Lukasz Piszczek, who missed the Darmstadt defeat with injury.
Benfica will be without Andrija Zivkovic, the Serbia worldwide midfielder, who is suspended, while Lisandro Lopez will miss the game through injury.
Mario Gotze will not be able to play for Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.
"It will be a big task for us against a very proud club".
Greece striker Kostas Mitroglou scored twice as Benfica eased past Arouca 3-0 on Friday to remain one point clear of Porto at the top of the Portuguese league.
The two teams haven't played each other since the first round of the 1963/1964 European Cup which Dortmund won 6-2 on aggregate.
They have only lost once in that time - Saturday's defeat by Darmstadt - but Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel is hoping for a convincing win in Portugal to revive their campaign. Jonas, meanwhile, could miss the game as the Brazilian recovers from a back complaint. We will test him tomorrow and see where we are. A player of his age who reaches 500 matches after 14 years at the same club, that doesn't happen often in modern football.
The second leg in Germany is scheduled for March 8.
