IPL auction, 2017 - List of players up for grabs

It's the time of the year when a cricketer's value is discussed in monetary terms rather than his ability on the field.

Each IPL franchise can have up to 27 players in its squad, with a maximum of nine overseas players.

A total of 799 players are part of the initial roster which would be reduced once the franchises submit their preferences before the deadline this weekend.

Asghar Stanikzai, Mohammad Nabi, Mohammad Shahzad, Rashid Khan and Dawlat Zadran, all from Afghanistan, have made the cut with Chirag Suri of UAE being the other player from the associate nations.

The biggest global names include Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan, Chris Woakes then the Australian in the fray are speedster Mitchell Johnson, Pat Cummins and Sri Lankan Angelo Matthews. These include Twenty20 specialists such as Irfan Pathan and Varun Aaron, who have set their base price at Rs. 50 lakh each. Also with a base price for them that is low, the franchises will surely be interested in them, which again augurs well for the prosperity of cricket. "At this stage of my career, if I have to get back into contention, I should be able to get noticed and the IPL offers that platform, so money is secondary for me". While playing Pune and Delhi, the all-rounder had been auctioned for more than Rs 5 crore.

Fast bowler Ishant Sharma is one of the seven players with a maximum base price of INR 2 crore - approximately USA $298,000 - for the tenth player auction. They include five Afghanistan players alone. The existing player contracts will expire after this season of the league and most players are expected to go under the hammer at a mega auction ahead of the 2018 season.
