ABC makes Rachel Lindsay first black Bachelorette

The Bachelorette season 12 alum Wells Adams was a guest on a podcast earlier this month, and talk turned to whether producers would choose Lindsay.

The "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" TV shows have a combined 33 seasons under their belts, and now ABC has cast Rachel as the first black woman to be Bachelorette! But considering Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the news will break officially on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight, it seems a safe bet that Rachel will depart soon.

The Bachelor contestant Rachel Lindsay, who is now vying for Nick Viall's heart, will be the next Bachelorette, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lindsay is becoming The Bachelorette after years of controversy surrounding the long-running reality dating franchise. This is the first time that The Bachelorette has announced a series lead before the person's elimination episode of The Bachelor has aired.

The Bachelor franchise is prepared to make a historic announcement.

The Bachelor has recently made some attempts at fixing its diversity problem, including featuring the most diverse cast yet on the current season, with eight out of 30 nonwhite contestants. "She's incredibly smart, she's sweet and caring yet strong and independent, obviously wicked smart and a lawyer and very accomplished, has a lot of attributes".

What do you think of the choice to have Rachel as The Bachelorette?
