Chance the Rapper benefited from a change in Grammy rules this year to consider streaming-only releases.
Singer Jennifer Lopez presents the Grammy for Best New Artist to Chance the Rapper at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California February 13, 2017.
It was Chance's second win for which he was eligible on Sunday. The Chicago MC won the Best Rap Performance category for "No Problem," beating out Drake and Desiigner, among others. Coloring Book, his excellent, exuberant 2016 LP, became the first streaming-only release to ever crack the Billboard 200 and score a Grammy nod. "I claim this victory in the name of the Lord", he said when accepting the Best New Artist hardware, adding that the win was "for all of Chicago". "I want to thank God for my mother and my father who have supported me since I was young".
So far, just the Grammy-nominated single "No Problem", which features verses from Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz, has made much of an impact on the charts.
