76ers sit Jahlil Okafor as trade talks heat up

If they think they can get one or two more pieces out of the Pelicans - or whoever ends up taking Okafor - they will wait a few days for it, especially with the trade deadline not being until February 23rd.

Now, reports say that the Sixers have left for Charlotte on the plane for Monday night's game vs. the Hornets, and Jahlil Okafor was left behind. It would also prevent Okafor from getting asked questions about the rumors. Many teams will sit players who could be on the move to protect its asset and avoid the risk of injury. We can expect a trade to be likely on Sunday or early Monday, but I wouldn't be floored if the talks went into Tuesday or Wednesday.

What they would get out of this is completely unclear until more particulars are leaked, but one thing they nearly certainly can't use is Okafor himself.

"You never know what's going to happen".

A deal was not imminent as of Saturday, but Philadelphia is believed to be in talks about Okafor with several teams.

Portland sent center Mason Plumlee and a 2018 second-round draft pick to Denver in exchange for center Jusuf Nurkic and a 2017 first-round draft pick.

The Pelicans appear to be the top suitor for Okafor ahead of the NBA's February 23 trade deadline, reportedly trying to acquire the 21-year-old in a deal that would involve their own big man, Omer Asik.

The situation left Brown "conflicted - tremendously conflicted - because you've spent a lot of time with these guys and they're very young".

Okafor is not going to play next to Nikola Jokic, and is not going to be happy playing behind him, so the Nuggets really have no use for the former Duke star. In 37 games, he's averaged 11.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, one assist and one block per game - numbers that are significantly down from previous year, which coincides with a drop-off in minutes played. But since the deal is apparently moving swiftly toward its conclusion, stay tuned to Denver Stiffs for more updates as the trade deadline approaches.
