Arrests in metro-Savannah part of region-wide ICE operation

For hours into the night on Wednesday, protesters blocked ICE agents as they transported Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos, a Phoenix mother who had reportedly spent 22 years illegally in the us, in a van en route to Nogales, Mexico.
"ICE is showing up at people's homes, showing up at places of businesses".
ICE says these raids were "routine", and also apparently they don't care for the term raid.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents concluded a five-day operation around Los Angeles on Friday.
David Marin, ICE's field office director for enforcement and removal operations in greater Los Angeles, said an enforcement sweep in California was in the planning stages "before the administration came out with their current executive orders".
Austin City Councilman Greg Casar added to the fear and false information about the operation by claiming the enforcement action was retaliation for standing up against President Donald Trump's immigration plans.

ICE confirms more than 160 arrests of foreign nationals in the last five days in the Los Angeles area, sparking concerns that a roundup under Trump's executive order on the interior had begun.
The raids sparked concern among NGOs supporting immigrant groups, coming on the heels of the United States appeals courts' rejection of President Trump's travel ban barring refugees and immigrants from seven majority-Muslim nations.
He said ICE will not release the names of those arrested.
According to ICE, these arrests were targeted and were not made by stopping individuals indiscriminately, by stopping people at checkpoints or by going door-to-door. A solidarity rally for immigrant rights is planned in NY on Friday.
In Wichita, there were reports of at least three arrests for immigration violations two weeks ago, but it wasn't immediately clear if those arrests were included in the 200 arrested in this crackdown.
I have asked federal officials to disclose how many children, men, and women they have detained; what the processing time will be; what the rationale is for their detention; and I asked that everyone be offered access to an attorney. Christensen also said the vast majority of those taken into custody were serious criminals.
Meanwhile, local law enforcement scrambled to tamp down the hysteria, with some blaming the immigration rights advocates for crying wolf and heightening fears. Marin also said 75 percent of those arrested in the area had felony convictions.
