ACA should not be repealed

However, the track record of the new government hasn't been conducive to the public sentiment, and hence there's skepticism on the kind of health care act they will formulate. But more than seven years later, it works.

Health Care is a bipartisan issue and should not be politicized. But sadly, Washington is.

When the Affordable Care Act was signed into law eight years ago, many of us fell into a slumber thinking that our work was done, that all of us would have access to affordable, preventive and timely care. The order called on federal agencies to begin dismantling the ACA "to the maximum extent permitted by law".

AIM President and CEO Richard Lord said the ACA, which was passed into law in 2010, caused upheaval for many small businesses in MA but warned that an "ill-considered" repeal of the law could put at risk billions of dollars of federal Medicaid funding. A full repeal of the ACA offers no solutions, and studies show a repeal will cost our economy almost a trillion dollars a year and will eliminate over 1.1 million jobs.

In a recent Monmouth University poll, respondents said health care costs were a bigger concern than terrorism.

"There could be much more movement from employer coverage to individual plans, especially among younger and healthier workers", Levitt said. And that's in spite of projections of a surge during the final week of open enrollment this year due to more sophisticated targeting and outreach.

As I reflect over my career in medicine two quotes come to mind: Si se puede! and Yes we can! Corker, according to the Huffington Post, said he has "no idea" when Republicans might start drafting an alternative to Obamacare, adding, "I don't see any congealing around ideas yet".

In Montgomery County, about 58,000 additional people would be uninsured, more than double the present amount. It's considered too much to qualify for MO HealthNet, the state's Medicaid program, but too little to receive a federal subsidy to buy coverage on Healthcare.gov.

So why are Republicans purposefully sabotaging the insurance markets created by the ACA? He said he supports repealing a tax on medical devices in the ACA. This deeply cynical political game endangers people's lives, but it is by no means inevitable.

Also, insurers anticipate that Republicans will get rid of theblanket Obamacare provision requiring coverage of those with pre-existing conditions.Republicans have said they would only protect this group if they did not have a lapse in coverage.

Medicaid expansion was originally an integral part of the plan to achieve near-universal health insurance coverage, but when the Supreme Court found the ACA's individual mandate constitutional in 2012, they also ruled that state expansion of Medicaid was optional.

"Despite having lower overall health care costs than national averages and group premiums near the national average", Hall writes, "premiums for Affordable Care Act (ACA) nongroup coverage in North Carolina are the highest in the continental United States".

Another finding of the study was that narrow networks, or plans that provide consumers with fewer choices of doctors and hospitals, are likely here to stay because they give insurance companies the ability to negotiate lower prices and might even discourage sicker consumers from enrolling. Skeens is a two-time cancer survivor. Before passage of the ACA, insurance companies could refuse to sell Michelle a plan or could charge her whatever they wanted in premiums to simply make insurance unaffordable.

Few Americans want to go back to the way things were.

So what can we do to make sure health care is available at a fair and equitable price for all? No law is flawless, and for seven years, I've been wanting to work with congressional Republicans to find ways to strengthen the law.
