Westworld's Thandie Newton in talks for Han Solo Star Wars movie

Actress Thandie Newton is in negotiations to star in the Han Solo "Star Wars" spin-off movie. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the star of the Amazon series Fleabag, will play a performance-capture character.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are assembling one knockout cast for their hugely anticipated Han Solo movie. Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) stars as a young Han Solo in the era before Star Wars: A New Hope, before he met Leia and Luke and embarked on a galaxy-saving adventure. The role that Newton is in talks for was not released with the report, though that hasn't stopped this #StarWars fan from speculating who the Crash actress might be playing. Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones reportedly got that part-but maybe Clarke is actually an as-yet-unknown character, and Newton will play the rumored role instead. Kathleen Kennedy has described it as having "a heist or Western type feel", name-checking artist Fredric Remington as an influence on the look of the movie.

Thandie Newton was recently nominated for Golden Globe for her performance as "host" Maeve Millay on HBO's Westworld. It has also been confirmed that Chewbacca will also be a featured character in the film and, while unconfirmed, it is likely that The Force Awakens' Joonas Suotamo will reprise the role. She is now shooting The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, the new drama from French-Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan. Han Solo is already in production, so she should be headed over very soon.

Han Solo: A Star Wars Story will land in theaters on May 25, 2018.
