Sasikala-O Panneerselvam tussle far from over?

Hours after she despatched a letter to Tamil Nadu Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao requesting him to immediately meet her, Sasikala drove in to a resort near Chennai to meet party lawmakers. Sasikala supporter and former minister BValarmathi claimed that the MLAs switched-off their mobile phones because they are receiving threats from his camp. She offered rose petals and kneeled at the memorial. "Mr. Pandiarajan's support reflects what the youth of Tamil Nadu are thinking", Mr. Panneerselvam says.

VK Sasikala branded O Panneerselvam as a "liar" who has betrayed the party.

V K Sasikala, Jayalalithaa's long time aide and the current general secretary of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), continues to live in the house. What is happening now is that numbers are being sought to prove a majority for O Panneerselvam, at his home on Greenways Road.

Sources said the Governor may look into the allegations by the outgoing CM that he was forced into resigning.

Sending a strong message to her detractors, Sasikala sacked Madusudanan from the primary membership of the party, a day after he switched over to the rebel camp led by caretaker chief minister O Panneerselvam, and appointed former minister K A Sengottaiyan in his place.

The AIADMK leader said their patience also had a limit.

Sasikala's dream of becoming chief minister of Tamil Nadu seems to be a distant dream yet. Sasikala has sent a letter urging him to invite her to form the Government while OPS has been seeking the announcement of a floor test in the assembly.

Mr Panneerselvam also said he was willing to withdraw his resignation "if people wanted".

"Whether it is Pannerselvam or Sasikala, it is the internal matter of the legislators to decide who the natural leader should be, who the heir to J. Jayalalithaa should be". The manner in which the Centre has not appointed a full-time governor since K Rosaiah retired in September previous year, keeping the situation tentative and tense, has also faced criticism. The court had yesterday directed the police to file an affidavit on the status of ruling party AIADMK MLAs who are reportedly lodged at two different resorts outside Chennai.
