Panneerselvam vs Sasikala: 10 points about Tamil Nadu's power struggle

The ruling government of Tamil Nadu is witnessing a face-off between Sasikala and O Panneerselvam for the post of Chief Minister of the state. The Sasikala faction claims to have the support of at least 130 MLAs.
Sasikala, a long-time confidante of Jayalalithaa who died in December, now resides at the house.
Sasikala on Wednesday had accused the acting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam of "betrayal" after he refused to back her plans to head the government. The governor can neither reinstate Panneerselvam nor ask him to take a floor test since that would falls foul of the Constitution.

However, Rao's absence for the next two days from the state raised eyebrows with Sasikala's supporters demanding that she should have been invited to form the next government.
For close to three decades, Sasikala, known as Chinnamma (younger mother) to her supporters, had been an nearly permanent fixture in Jayalalitha's life, and was often seen with the former chief minister on public platforms.
Sasikala's meeting with the Governor lasted about 40 minutes.
Meanwhile late on Friday evening Tamil Nadu Governor C Vidyasagar Rao refuted reports that he had sent his assessment of the political situation in Tamil Nadu to the Centre.

The governor, who arrived in the Southern Indian state today afternoon, is expected to take a decision on power tussle today itself, sources say.
Chidambaram said it was the Constitutional duty of the Governor to swear her in unless that leader is now disqualified to be sworn in.
The deadlock over the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is yet to be solved. If Poes Garden is turned into a memorial, it would be trouble for its current occupants - VK Sasikal and her family.
