"That's on us." In an exclusive interview with Eyewitness News, Oakley maintained that he did nothing wrong before he was surrounded by Madison Square Garden security officials.
Meanwhile, Knick fans were at the Garden Friday night, chanting, "Free Charles Oakley!" as the home team lost to the Nuggets, 131-123. "I'm like, I've been here 4 1/2 minutes, I'm a Knicks fan, I played here for 10 1/2 years, I love the Knicks, I love NY in my heart, I wish them all the luck and success on the basketball court and I want to know why I'm not welcome in the Garden". King James shared a photo of Oakley in his heyday on Instagram, and, according to Sports Illustrated, at the end of his February 9 press conference (following the Cleveland Cavaliers' loss to the Oakland City Thunder) LeBron said, "Charles Oakley For President".
"I want thank all in players and pass National Basketball Association players as well as family and friends for all your love and support", he added.
Oakley was arrested Wednesday night after getting into a fight with three Madison Square Garden security guards during the Knicks' loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. "I went to sit there with my guest and watch the game and they said they got orders that I had to leave". The incident reportedly began when Oakley heckled Dolan, with whom he has a longstanding feud.
The New York Knicks are a mess right now.
A manager told investigators when things went to the tunnel after the public exchange, Phil Jackson was there. I understood when I coached him what he was all about. Where are they? Who are they? during all this media backlash should Dolan and the Knicks produce one or more to prove they are in the right?
Interestingly, Dolan said his decision wasn't necessarily a "lifetime move", but the team wanted to keep the Garden "a place that's comfortable and safe".
MSG owner James Dolan fired the arena's senior vice persident for security, Frank Benedetto, Friday morning, the sources said. Jackson and Dolan are trying to ban Anthony from the Garden by trying to push him out. "I did not do none of that", Oakley said. He was tough, he was gritty, he always had 110% energy and I think, at times, our teams haven't had what Charles had. Security has to do what they have to do.
