White leads the Southeastern Conference in passing efficiency (159.0), connecting on 113-of-165 throws for 1,511 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions.
His first play was a pass for 9 yards, and the drive ended with a 21-yard touchdown pass from White to Darius Slayton. "You have got to give Vanderbilt a lot of credit". He has 24 catches for 408 yards and three touchdowns, all team highs. Now this team that seems to have a myriad of injuries no one knew about has a game against Georgia next week as it starts Amen corner.
With three field goals today, Carlson passed Wes Byrum for the Auburn career record with 61.
First, we learned that Sean White is the unquestioned leader of this offense.
The biggest question leading up to Saturday's game at Georgia is the status of tailback Kamryn Pettway, who pulled up at the end of a 60-yard run in the fourth quarter, clutching his left leg. Malzahn said the SEC's leading rusher "obviously pulled something", but his status against the Bulldogs is unknown.
Auburn added a final pair of field goals from Carlson, from 53 and 33 yards out, while the defense held Vandy to just a single field goal in the second half. The Commodores got a 47-yarder with 13:28 left in the fourth quarter.
Auburn is now shorthanded on both sides of the ball, with their starting quarterback not playing due to injury.
However, Pettway came up limping late in the game.
It wasn't pretty, but Auburn football kept things moving by holding on to be Vanderbilt 23-16 Saturday morning.
He was 4 of 4 for 42 yards on the 67-yard, nine play drive to set up the winning field goal after Georgia got the ball with 2:47 to go.
How do you practice hurdling an offensive line to block a field goal?
After giving up 465 passing yards last week at Ole Miss and being desperately at the bottom of its linebacker depth chart Saturday, Auburn managed to keep Vanderbilt quarterback Kyle Shurmur to a short and intermediate passes for just 221 yards. Darrell Williams and grad transfer T.J. Neal saw extensive time in their places and finished with a combined 20 tackles to lead the way for the Tigers' defense, but it wasn't quite the same.
Worth Noting, Part 3: Tony Stevens (ribs injury) was unable to go for a second straight week. Sean White threw for 247 yards and a touchdown in 15 of 22 passes.
