Teen charged with killing parents due in court in Maine

Police say they've charged a teenage boy with a double-killing in Winthrop.

Seventeen-year-old Andrew Balcer has been ordered held on charges he murdered his parents, Alice and Antonio Balcer of Winthrop. Sign up for his daily Federal Report email alert.

McCausland said the 911 call was made at 1:45 a.m., and that the bodies were found inside the home. His Facebook page shows him baptizing two men past year in Plymouth Pond and lists him as a local union steward.

Maine State Police are investigating two deaths in the town of Winthrop Monday morning, according to WCSH.

The mother worked at Winthrop Veterinary Hospital.

The teen is charged as a juvenile, but prosecutors can seek to try him as an adult. Lawyers in the case declined comment.

Balcer is detained at a South Portland juvenile facility and is scheduled to next appear in court November 17.

Autopsies were being performed Tuesday, and the state medical examiner's office has not yet released results.
