IBM Bolsters Watson Through Data Platform, Bots, iOS Integration

Staples, Autodesk, and The Weather Company are already putting IBM's technology to use. For use on social media or SMS, in mobile apps, embedded within a website, or with other form factors, the bots include pre-trained cross-industry content for everyone from startups to seasons developers. "The cognitive mobility platform is an exciting extension of our partnership with OnStar, as it will open a wide range of new opportunities for drivers and parking operators", commented Eugene Tsyrklevich, Parkopedia's CEO.

Each Slack customer, for example, has archived messages about everything from human-resources questions to sales data to network issues, all information that can be fed to an artificial intelligence machine that can be used to advise people on later inquiries and problems - via, say, a chatbot interface.

IBM made headlines almost 20 years ago with "Deep Blue" software that beat world chess champion Garry Kasparov at his own game, and more recently with Watson artificial intelligence that triumphed over top human players in a Jeopardy television game show.

IBM itself takes advantage of Slack.

To make all this possible, IBM MobileFirst for iOS apps, coupled with custom-built iOS apps from IBM, can now be embedded with a variety of Watson APIs to fit a client's unique criteria.

IBM and Esri have teamed up to provide cognitive analytics and Internet of Things offerings to government and enterprise customers through the IBM cloud platform.

Deborah DiSanso, general manager for IBM Watson Health distilled the situation by stating, "We are at an unprecedented time in health care". USA multinational banking firm Citigroup used Watson analytics to help improve customer analytics, while Imperial College London used the supercomputer to predict crime rates. The project builds on an existing alliance between the two companies and will focus on two key areas in healthcare: developing a systematic approach to discovering new uses for existing drugs and improving chronic disease management.

Both Watson Virtual Agent and Watson Conversation are offered as cloud-based services, which allows for ongoing enhancements to content and capabilities.

The GM/IBM partnership will expand the OnStar AtYourService platform through new capabilities supported by OnStar Go with IBM Watson.
