J.R Smith Finally Agrees Contract With Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers and J.R Smith have finally agreed on a four-year contract worth $57 million.

He started 77 games last season at shooting guard during the regular season and was a key contributor at both ends of the floor as the Cavs claimed the franchise's first National Basketball Association title and ended a 52-year championship drought for Cleveland's major professional sports teams.

"Bringing J.R. back as part of our core group was a priority for us", General Manager David Griffin said.

As for the contract extension, Smith earned it after averaging 12.4 points per game for the Cavs during their 2015-16 season.

J.R. Smith's contract with Cleveland Cavaliers is one of the most anticipated event this offseason.

While it's still early, one of the risky lineups we can see coach Tyronn Lue potentially going to is with Frye, Dunleavy, and Smith. Not only can the Cavs go much deeper into their bench, but they also have more talented players on their bench which can give the Cavaliers' superstars a lot of rest during even the toughest of games. "He's a special part of this family and we are very pleased to have reached an agreement that we all can feel good about". The tattooed-adorned Smith, nicknamed "Swish" by his teammates and fans, was a huge hit when he rode shirtless in the team's championship parade last June. "Anytime you get your starting two-guard back, [and he was] a big part of what we did..."

The 6-foot-6 sharpshooter ranked seventh in three-pointers made with a franchise season record 204 threes. Smith led Cleveland in steal-to-turnover ratio (1.37) and scored 10 or more points 50 times and 20 or more points 11 times last season.

Cleveland made the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history to defeat the Golden State Warriors in 7 games and claim the city's first major sports crown in half a century. The Cavs open their season against the New York Knicks on October 25 when the players will receive their championship rings and a title banner will be unveiled in the rafters of Quicken Loans Arena.

"That"'s going to be an honor and a pleasure to get our rings regardless of whether we are playing the Knicks or a college team; it doesn'™t really matter", Smith said.
