Chiefs list Jamaal Charles as doubtful this week

The Kansas City running back was initially listed as doubtful for Sunday's matchup against the Jets after being limited in practice all week.

It is uncertain if Charles will suit up for next Sunday night's game against the Steelers. The Steelers are coming off a 34-3 beatdown at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles. Obviously, both teams are talented enough to bounce back from a 2-2 start, but finishing the first quarter of the season with a winning record is always helpful. This could come in two forms; the offensive line getting healthy and the return of Jamaal Charles.

Last year's injury continues to limit the Chiefs' backfield to some degree, although Spencer Ware has proved to be an effective replacement and looks like the franchise's running back of the future, but Kansas City's caution is understandable. It makes more sense that the rotation would also involve Ware more than West. Since, he's become the greatest statistical runner on a per-carry basis in National Football League history, averaging 5.5 yards per tote for his career.

The Chiefs would more likely get Charles involved in some sort of playing rotation.

"Whenever he comes back we'll be happy and lucky to have him back", quarterback Alex Smith said. That would go against every cautious move the Chiefs have made with him.

"But it'™s not like the Chiefs have been hurting with Charles inactive. There was no reason to rush him back". Charles' status will be updated no later than Wednesday. Sep.

That still could happen at some point during the season, once the Chiefs are convinced he's the same player he was before the injury and ready for a big workload. We'll just have to wait and see.
