Buying an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus may be impossible today

We estimate this year's iPhone 7 launch line at Apple's flagship 5th Avenue store in NYC was around 400 people vs 650 for the 6S and 1,880 for the 6.

Apple Inc fans from Sydney to Shanghai, the first customers worldwide to snap the new iPhone 7 off the shelves, cheered as they left stores on Sept 16 brandishing their purchases, flanked by applauding sales staff.

If you're not in a rush and don't fancy spending your morning waiting on a sidewalk, you can order an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus online through Apple or a number of retailers.

What do you think of the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and how they handled the drop test? If so, which model?

"This year, though, the usual carnival hubbub of the Covent Garden queue was rather more subdued - Apple's announcement earlier this week that the new handsets had sold out in all colours in the United Kingdom meant that the majority of the Friday queuers had already reserved a slot to pick up a new phone".

Apple announced Thursday the first batch of iPhone 7 Plus devices had already sold out in all colors. Reports indicate that crowds at Apple Stores were smaller than expected. Although Apple stores were all out of iPhone 7 Plus models, a few authorized retailers like Verizon reported that they had a few of the models available on September 16, although in very limited supply.

Lines at stores are also much shorter than they've been in recent years, so you shouldn't have a very long wait ahead of you.

"We sincerely appreciate our customers' patience as we work hard to get the new iPhone into the hands of everyone who wants one as quickly as possible", Apple said in a statement.

Zhou Zhanggui, a Beijing-based strategic consultant said that Apple's refusal to cater to local demands in its marketing as well as product design is basically killing its chances. Orders for the jet-black iPhone on Apple's website have shipping dates that push into November. Apple iPhone 6s was rated as the world's top-selling smartphone model in the second quarter of 2016.
