In the western Indian state of Maharashtra and parts of the southern state of Karnataka, Ganesh Chaturthi is incomplete without traditional candies also known as the Modak (steamed sweet dumplings). It is a religious festival that is celebrated more popularly in areas like Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. Parts of the nation are drenched in the celebrations of the holy festival that began yesterday. It is also good for the Ganapati who are made from plaster of Paris. Public pandals are put up and Ganesha idols installed by communities where people come to worship the lord.

The followers of Hinduism worship Ganesha praying and wishing for a life without obstructions and hurdles, and for peace and happiness, according to Ganesh Purana. On the altar, the massive idol of Lord Ganesh is flanked by small idols of Lord Venkateshwara and Lord Krishna.

Apart from family celebrations, many people were seen at the Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav across Goa in large numbers, singing and chanting "Ganpati Bappa Morya".

The film is about a young girl, who as a ritual always gets her lucky blue and gold pen blessed by Ganesha to help her remove obstacles and do well in her exams.

Nearly every family has its own small, independent, simple yet colourful celebrations, with the occasional neighbours or friends dropping in for the "aartis".

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has made artificial ponds for Ganpati Visarjan. But we don't bring an idol home.

Like every year, the tallest idol has been installed in Khairatabad, the heart of the city. Take safety precautions to avoid the freak accidents during the processions and at the sea-shore. People celebrate this festival in their own special way. One should celebrate and enjoy the festival without causing damage to the environment.
